About this place
A platter of yakitori, chilled tomatoes and chicken skin with ponzu makes a tempting spread to enjoy with a drink. At Torigen Asakusa, skewers are the focus, but there are plenty of small plates too, so diners can put together a meal of different tastes. One diner described the yakitori as crisp and fragrant, and paired it with draft beer. Skewer choices include seseri (chicken neck), gizzards and wings, as well as bonjiri (tail) and limited-availability white liver, described as sweet and mellow.
Chicken skin with ponzu won over one diner who had been wary of its greasiness. Another review praised the chilled tomatoes, which reportedly included several varieties of cherry tomato; the differences in flavour stood out even without added salt. For something richer, there is liver pâté with baguette. A diner who came for the chicken dishes and skewers enjoyed the pâté so much that they ordered more, making it an appealing plate between skewers.
At lunchtime, the menu also includes rice dishes such as oyakodon made with Okukuji eggs and a grilled-chicken bento-style rice box. One reported lunch combined an oyako rice box with seseri, liver and gizzards. A rice bowl makes a filling meal, while a side dish can round things out for anyone keen to try skewers too. Drinks include draft beer, umeboshi plum sour and Hiroshima lemon sour. Some diners enjoyed skewers with beer; another particularly liked the plum sour, leaving plenty of room to choose according to taste.
